SPIRO (KFSM) - Two people who were killed after their tractor trailers collided in Spiro on Wednesday morning (Oct. 8) have been identified.

Donald Sharp, 58, of Fort Smith and Kelvin Hudson, 47, of Keota, Oklahoma were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to an accident report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

"My husband was blown out of the truck," Hudson's wife Lori Hudson said.

Sharp and an unidentified vehicle were traveling in the westbound lane of Highway 9, when the vehicle in front of Sharp slowed down to make a turn, the report states. Sharp then veered left of of the center line and struck Hudson's tractor trailer head-on, causing both vehicles to catch on fire.

"I just can't believe it," Hudson said. "I've been married to him for 22 years."

The LeFlore County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. One of the trucks was carrying rocks, and the other was empty.

LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan said both of the trucks tried to stop before the collision, but the brakes gave out.

Kenneth Smith has lived on Highway 9 for 12 years. He said the speed limit, which is 65, should be lowered.

"It could be lowered down to at least 55," Smith said. "The police and the ambulance run up and down this highway all the time."

Highway 9, where the crash happened, was closed to traffic as a result of the collision for about three hours Wednesday.

"He was my soul mate," Hudson said. "I'll never find anyone like him again."

An investigation is underway by Oklahoma Highway Patrol to find out who was driving the vehicle that was in front of Sharp.
