SEQUOYAH COUNTY (KFSM) – The first gay marriage license has been issued in Sequoyah County as of Thursday (Oct. 9), officials say.
The license went to Sharon Mathews and Dianna L. Justice, who were both from Braggs, according to officials.
Gay marriage became legal in the Sooner State after the Supreme Court refused to hear appeals from five states (including Oklahoma) that had their gay marriage bans overturned.
LeFlore County started issuing gay marriage licenses on Oct. 7. On Oct. 8, a total of three licenses were issued, officials said.
