SPRINGDALE (KFSM)- The VFW Post 2952 in Springdale is hosting a free flu clinic for all veterans Thursday (Oct. 9) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

It's located at 1006 N. Thompson Street. Veterans have to bring their VA registration and veteran identification.

The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville offers a walk-in flu clinic Monday through Friday. However, they are sending some of its nurses to the VFW for Thursday's event.

Randy George, VFW Post Commander, said they do the clinic every year.

"We are just trying to help the community out as best we can, especially during this flu season," George said. "The way it's hitting right now, a lot of people are going to be getting sick if they don't take it," George said.

Flu activity usually peaks between December and February, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, it can start as early as October.

George said they get a big turnout.

"We probably give shots to anywhere from 100 to 150 people or even more," George said. "They do have enough vaccine, but if we run out, we just make sure they come back next time we have a meeting and they’ll do it again.”
