BENTON COUNTY [KFSM] - Lightning struck a cabin near Beaver Lake in Benton County early Friday morning, blowing a hole in the roof and shattering windows.

Homeowner Paul Bushey was asleep when he said the storm woke him up. Moments later, he said, lightning hit his home.

"It could have seriously killed me, and that's what scares me, it went straight for me and could have killed me," Bushey said.

He said he saw a big orange ball with blue and black marbling near his window that exploded a half-second later. Bushey said the lightning struck just about his front window, leaving a hole the size of a fist.

"It was a big explosion, it felt like a bomb, and I was pretty shook up," he said.

The Army veteran said the blast tore open his door, then ripped through the metal roof. Bushey said he wasn't hurt, but said he could feel a surge of energy in his back when he was laying in bed.

"I could feel the electricity going through my spine, it touched the back of my back area and it puts me in a slight shock," Bushey said.

The homeowner said he estimates the damage to be around $1000. He said he and his wife will be making the repairs to the cabin. Bushey said his wife was in another cabin on the property and was unharmed. He said their chickens, goats and Border Collie named Jack were also not hurt in the incident.
