FORT SMITH (KFSM) – A Fort Smith man accused of killing two people with a machete in 2013 is not going to be required to have a mental exam, a judge ruled.

Gregory Aaron Kinsey, 21, is accused of stabbing Nathan Young, 32, and Brandon Prince, 39, near the intersection of North 16th Street and North D Street in Fort Smith, just before 10 p.m. on June 26, 2013, according to a police report.

Officials said that the defense already had a mental evaluation on Kinsey, and Judge Stephen Tabor didn’t feel the need to have another mental evaluation done by the state just for the prosecutors.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, and Kinsey’s next court date is scheduled for Nov. 17, KTHV reported.
