(KFSM) – Speaking at the Time Warner Inc. Investor Meeting on Wednesday (Oct. 15), HBO CEO Richard Plelper announced that the company would offer a stand-alone HBO streaming service in 2015, according to a news release.

HBO is home to popular shows like “Game of Thrones” and “The Newsroom,” and previously, in order to watch its shows online, one needed an HBO Go account. The only way to get an HBO Go account was to have an already-existing HBO subscription with a cable company.

That will change in 2015, according to Plelper.

In a portion of his presentation to investors, Plelper said that there was significant recent growth in the world of pay-TV. He said there are 10 million broadband-only homes, meaning, people that have high-speed Internet but no cable subscription, and that number is projected to grow in the future.

“That is a large and growing opportunity that should no longer be left untapped.  It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO,” he said.

Plelper continued, “So, in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top, HBO service in the United States. We will work with our current partners.  And, we will explore models with new partners.  All in, there are 80 million homes that do not have HBO, and we will use all means at our disposal to go after them.”
