BENTONVILLE (KFSM)- It took months for the city to choose its sculptures that will decorate the North Bentonville Trail for the year-long display. It's at the intersection of N. Walton Blvd. and NW A Street.

They want to celebrate the new art project with a celebration Tuesday (Oct. 21) at the site from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with tours, food and music.

"We're obviously very excited about the sculptures installation on the North Bentonville trail," said Troy Galloway, community and economic development director.

The first display is bright orange bursting lines sculpture named "SunKissed" by Nathan Pierce.

The second is "Ozark Topography," by Ed Pennebaker. It takes its inspiration from the colors and textures of the surrounding bluffs, creeks, rock formations and sky.

The third is the seven-feet tall sculpture made out of native Arkansas stone named "Pac-Man" by Craig Gray. It provides historical and geological education as well as photo opportunities for trail users, according to the city.

Galloway said they received proposals from all over the country including from Arkansas.

"We had about 15 inquiries, 14 actual proposals and then we selected three projects," Galloway said. "The artists were compensated for their work for the one year installation on the Bentonville Trail."

"It's just another way Bentonville's working to include the arts through our community," he said.

The art project was funded by the Bentonville Advertising and Promotion Commission. The commission paid $5,000 to each artist.
