FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A Fayetteville Walmart was shut down early Tuesday morning due to a possible bomb threat, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

An employee found a suspicious object in a high-traffic area of the Walmart on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard around midnight, according to authorities.

Several police cars and two fire trucks responded to the scene. Once police arrived on scene, they decided the object could not be dismissed as harmless.

The Bentonville Bomb Squad was called in to help with the investigation. Around 2:40 a.m. , it was determined that the object was harmless, according to authorities on scene.

Walmart employees stood outside the store stopping customers from getting inside, eyewitnesses said. Once the store was cleared, employees were able to return inside, according to police.
