BENTONVILLE (KFSM)- Fred's Hickory Inn on Walton Blvd. will remain closed until the owners repair and replaced the damage caused by an late night fire, according to general manager Greg Cockrum,

Most of the damage is in the attic, roof, and there's water damage in the kitchen area. The Fire Marshal is investigating what caused a fire.

No one was inside the barbecue and Italian food restaurant when it caught fire around 11 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 22), according to the fire department.

The battalion chief said it took firefighters about two and a half hours to put the fire out.

Cockrum arrived when firefighters were on scene.

"They go the flames patted down pretty much when I got here," Cockrum said. "They had the streets blocked off and wouldn't let anyone through."

"Could have been a lot worse," he said. "It was a mess."

Cockrum said the 44-year old business is a landmark in Bentonville and he's no one was injured.

"I'm just glad none of my staff was hurt, that everybody was out of the building and that I didn't have any guests in the building as well at the time," Cockrum said. "We're very fortunate for that."

The insurance company will be contacted and Cockrum said they don't have an exact date yet on when they'll be open.
