PRAIRIE GROVE (KFSM)-Halloween is tomorrow (Oct. 31), but one group in Northwest Arkansas investigates the supernatural 365 days a year.

They’re called Arkansas Paranormal Investigations, and its founder is a systems engineer by day.

“But my weekend job is I’m a ghost hunter,” Alan Silva, API founder said.

He has over 20 years of experience doing paranormal investigations.

“My brother committed suicide when I was in the service many years ago, and so I had people just come up and tell me my brother was around me," Silva said. "I’m not a sensitive type of person; I don’t get those vibes, but I wanted to find out about it."

In 2004, he started API, which is based out of Centerton.

“We take it very seriously because we’re out to help people. We’ve gone all over the U.S.-- it’s not just here in Arkansas,” he said.

Like the group’s founder, everyone on the team has a personal story for wanting to explore the unknown.

“I’ve been interested in the paranormal since a little kid actually, and then I had a few experiences as an adult,” Carol Martindale, API member said.

“I met Alan at work,” Jeffery Young, API member said. “I work security in his building, and we got to talking one day, and I had had some experiences when I was younger and found out what he did, so I got invited along on an investigation.”

They rely mostly on technology to capture activity, and utilize generators, cameras, motion detectors, sensitive microphones and other sound equipment at each investigation site.

“I invest a lot in our equipment and stuff like that because others that are sensitive on the team. We have the equipment to back us up and to record different things that they say are going on, then that helps solidify it,” Silva said. “It’s not just a claim, you know, we have it on video.”

“If there’s anything that can be even remotely thrown out, then, we’ve got to throw it out,” Silva said.

On Friday (Oct. 31), tune into 5NEWS This Morning, as we follow API on their investigation of the Prairie Grove Battlefield.
