FORT SMITH (KFSM) - Starting Friday night (Oct.31), little ghosts and goblins of all ages will roam the streets collecting candy, but authorities are warning parents to keep an eye out for potential dangers.

One thing parents can teach their children is to not eat their candy while trick-or-treating. According to Sebastian County Sheriff Bill Hollenback, children should always bring it home to their parents first, so they can inspect it.

"Make sure there isn't certain objects or any type of powder or substance that shouldn't be put in a candy bar," said Hollenbeck. "Parents have great common sense so let's make the parents inspect the candy first."

The candy should be thrown away and kept away from children.
