WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) –Judge Marilyn Edwards pulled out a tight win in her county judge race against challenger Jeff Williams as Tuesday night stretched into Wednesday morning before election results were announced.

Unofficial final results released by Washington County election officials around 1 a.m. showed Williams with the win, 27,432 votes (51 percent) to 26,445 votes (49 percent).

“This just means that the people have stood behind me again, as they have been doing for 40 years,” Edwards said. “I feel like, over the years, people have learned to respect me. They know where I stand. They know I am willing to work for them, and I am willing to go to bat for them where they need me to.”

The results came more than five hours after polls closed in Washington County, a result of high voter turnout and a glitch with the counting of early voting ballots.
