BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) - Four-year-old Lucas Murray was found in southeastern Georgia after being abducted by his great-grandparents in August, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, which worked in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals to bring the boy home.
Detective Tim Srader said he got the call on Halloween that federal agents had found Lucas, then he immediately called Lucas' father, Ken.
"You could just hear it in his voice, it felt like to me he started crying," Srader said. "He was so happy that in 18 or 19 hours he was going to have his son back."
Lucas' great-grandmother, Marilyn Hollan, and her husband, David, are in custody in Camden County, Ga. and could be facing felony charges of interference with custody and hindering an investigation. Srader said his team was able to track the Hollan's locations using I.P. addresses.
"We can find out where they are, what tower they are hitting off of, and then we can get a geographical location," Srader said.
Investigators said they found a book titled "How To Disappear" in Hollan's car. Srader said he does not think Hollan had any intention of returning Lucas to his father, but does not believe the child was in any danger or abused.
"Hopefully he just thought it was a vacation," Srader said. "I know that he's with his dad and his stepmom, and hopefully he will have a normal life from here on."
Lucas' father, Ken Murray, released this statement: " The Murray family is absolutely thrilled to have Lucas home. Thanks to Detective Srader and the Benton County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshals, and the community, my son was found safe and is back home."
According to authorities, Marilyn and David Hollan should be extradited to Arkansas in the next 10 to 14 days.
Detectives said Marilyn Hollan had tried to get legal guardianship of the child several times in the state of Florida.
