FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - Hundreds came out to the annual Veterans Day parade at the Fayetteville square Sunday (Nov. 9). Before the parade started, community members were able to visit with World War II and Korean War veterans.

The parade started at 2:30 p.m. and featured fire trucks, motorcycles, the Fayetteville Junior High marching band and the Ozark Highlanders pipe band. The Grand Marshalls of the parade were local veterans.

Retired Marine staff sergeant Claude Ogden served from 1943-1946. He said his platoon was one of the first to respond for the Marines at Okinawa. He said he appreciates that community members are reminded about such an important part of our history.

"I didn't get no injuries, got through it in good shape, and I would like to tell the people that I appreciate them remembering that there was such thing as World War II," Ogden said.

The University of Arkansas' ROTC groups also participated in the parade.
