BENTONVILLE (KFSM) -  The words and music of the Star-Spangled Banner filled the Old High Middle School auditorium on Tuesday (Nov. 11) for the school's annual Veteran's Day concert.

More than 200 5th and 6th grade choir students sang a variety of patriotic songs to honor local war heroes and their service.

For 6th grader Noah Kubel, the concert was a way to remember his great uncle, who served during World War II.

"It is extra special, because I know someone and I am related to someone who served, so I know I get to honor them," Kubel said.

It is the seventh year for the school's Veteran's Day concert. Choir Director Jo Dunlavy said each year they work to make the program better.

"We try to add something different either with how we honor the veterans or something else," Dunlavy said. "We are adding a little instrumental piece this year to march in with."

Dunlavy said it is important for kids to understand the value of what veterans have done and continue to do for their country.

"It is important for us to keep it in the forefront and to let people know that this is important," she said. "We want to remember this all year long not just on Veterans Day."

Students at Old High Middle School also wrote letters to soldiers as part of Operation Gratitude, which sends care packages to soldiers stationed around the world.
