FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - In honor of Veterans Day, a bank in Fayetteville celebrated those who have served our country with a ceremony.

On Tuesday (Nov. 11) veterans and those who wanted to thank them for their service, gathered at the Arvest Bank on the Fayetteville Square.

Army veteran Ronald Butler, who served in the Vietnam War, was at the event.

"You remember. Your memory comes back,” Butler said. “A lot of funny things happened [in war], a lot of serious things happened, and a lot of tragic things happened. Those memories go whirling around. You're proud to have survived, but you also feel a little guilty that's so many people you knew didn't survive.”

Donnice Roberts also attended the event. Her husband was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2008.

"[Honoring veterans] is not something that should just be done once a year,” Roberts said. “This is something that needs to be going every day of the year. This is something that he would absolutely want to be a part of.”

Donnice’s daughter, Caehlen, said she keeps her dad with her every day.

“Even though he's not here physically, he still here spiritually," Caehlen said.

The veterans who were at the ceremony tell 5NEWS that it was everything they were hoping for.

"It's wonderful to see kids, they're the ones we've done all this for,” Butler said.

The VFW Post 3031 Color Guard performed at the ceremony and students from St. Joseph Elementary sang the Star Spangled Banner, as well as other songs.
