Arkansas Shuts Down LSU To End SEC Skid

Razorbacks shutout Tigers for first conference win since 2012 season

It was a result that the Arkansas Razorbacks had been waiting two calendar years for.

Arkansas put an end to a 17-game SEC losing streak as they controlled LSU from the opening kickoff and posted a 17-0 win inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

“I think the great thing about our guys is we’ve been through so much that nothing is going to really faze them,” Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said. “There’s nothing they haven’t been through that they can learn from. We say it all the time, it’s not what happens, it’s how you react to what happens. We’ve had some bad things happen to us, but we kept reacting in the right way and eventually good things were going to happen.”

The Razorbacks scored on the game’s first possession, a 32-yard field goal from Adam McFain, and dominated throughout.

“If I could pick one game to win all season and lose all of the others, it would be this one,” Arkansas lineman Brey Cook said. “It was so much fun for us and it was blast to go out there and take that thing.”

LSU struggled to get anything going offensively as the Razorbacks’ defensive front controlled the line of scrimmage, holding the Tigers to just 36 yards rushing on 32 attempts.

“I don’t know what’s going on there,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “You can’t turn the ball over at the quarterback spot. We had a big run, then on the next play we turn it over. We should have moved the football better early in the game and I can’t blame Anthony on that. Certainly we should have started to throw the ball a bit more, they were loading the box early. We were uncharacteristically out of rhythm early and I don’t know why, but it’s something we have to fix.”

Arkansas wasn’t their dominant self on the ground but got rushing touchdowns from both Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins.

Brandon Allen finished the game with 169 yards passing on 16-of-27 passing.
