FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – The Fayetteville Public Library has a new early literacy program, 1,000 Books before Kindegarten, which encourages adults to commit to read 1,000 books to a child before that child begins kindergarten, according to a release.

The program is based upon research that indicates 1,000 stories read aloud to a child is a critical part in early literacy development, the release states.

Parents are encouraged to sign up for the program, pick up reading logs, and check out books for the program at the library’s Children’s Desk.

Adults can register for the program online at faylib.org. The program is sponsored in part by the Target Corporation.
