BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) - The snow in Benton County started around 11 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 16), and was off and on through about 4 p.m. County road officials said they had crews out since early Sunday morning pretreating hills and intersections.
"All day long we've been monitoring the roads, we haven't found any slick spots, we didn't find any accumulation on the road, but as we move into the overnight hours, if the temperature begins to drop, those slick spots could occur," Jeff Clark said.
Clark, the Benton County public services administrator, said he had his crews stop treating the roads around 1 p.m., and put them on standby for the rest of the night.
"They will start driving the roads before rush hour, and if they find any we will go ahead and sand and salt those, and try to beat the morning rush hour," Clark said.
In Washington County, Fayetteville's Streets Superintendent Terry Gulley said his crews started getting ready for the snow Saturday morning. Gulley said his crew has been pretreating city streets for the last two days. He said his final road crew finished their shift around 8 p.m., but said they will continue to keep an eye on the radar.
"Most the roads are drying up, and we don't think there will be any issues with them, so we are going to probably go into a standby with our on-call people through the night, and we've got all of our equipment ready, and if we need to get back on the road we can within a few minutes," Gulley said.
He said he doesn't think drivers will experience any slick spots tomorrow morning on their way to work.
"I don't anticipate it, normally when it starts getting colder like this the roads just kind of dry up, and having driven on them the last hour or so, I saw more dry than I saw wet," Gulley said.
Some parts of Northwest Arkansas saw around an inch of snow over several hours, but few places saw any accumulation.
