WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) - Roads in Washington County were wet Sunday (Nov. 16) afternoon, but were not covered with snow.

Authorities say one man in Fayetteville may have hit a wet spot on the road, possibly contributing to his SUV rolling over into a ditch.

Just after 3:00 P.M., the University of Arkansas Police Department responded to a rollover accident on Garland, near I-49.

Lauren Phillips was an eye witness to the accident. She called 911 to report the wreck.

“I thought [the driver] was really hurt,” Phillips said. “He started sliding. That is when he started rolling, and landed in the other side of the ditch. He was really shaken up.”

Officials say the driver was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville with minor injuries.

“He, by the grace of God, was fine,” Phillips said.

A campus police spokesperson tells 5NEWS that road conditions may have played a role in the rollover.

Phillips believes the conditions of the road were a factor as well.

“I think [the driver] underestimated it,” Phillips said. “I don`t think he really thought [the roads] were as slick as they really were. So, he just didn`t take that into account.”

Washington County road crews were out monitoring the roads, and pre-treating the surfaces, throughout the day.

Road officials say they are prepared if conditions worsen through the night.
