ADAIR COUNTY, Okla. (KFSM) – A Stillwell, Okla., man faces criminal charges after testing positive for methamphetamine at the time of a crash that left a four-year-old Sallisaw girl paralyzed, according to an arrest warrant filed in Adair County.

"There are nights I cry myself to sleep." Adilynn Dewberry’s mother LeeAn Dewberry said. "Adilynn was in the back seat. By the time I turned around and looked she was just kind of slumped over there. I can still smell the antifreeze and hear the airbags going off."

Alburn David Lewis, 46, appeared in court Wednesday following his arrest earlier this month on suspicion of driving under the influence while causing great bodily harm. His next pretrial hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17, according to Adair County court records.

A probable cause affidavit states Lewis was involved in a three-vehicle crash March 11 on U.S. 59 just south of Stillwell. The driver of a Dodge pickup involved in the crash told investigators a white van came across the center line and hit him.

Lewis was driving the white van and told police he didn’t remember what happened, the affidavit states.

Police said an investigation revealed Lewis crossed the center line and hit the pickup, before continuing north and striking head-on a second vehicle, which was driven by Leeann Dewberry. Dewberry’s three-year-old daughter Adilynn was paralyzed in the collision, court documents state.

The pickup was driven by Thomas Hernandez.

Lewis was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville following the crash. Police drew blood from him and found it tested positive for methamphetamine, the probable cause affidavit states.

An arrest warrant for Lewis was issued out of Adair County on Sept. 23. The warrant was served Nov. 4, and Lewis was arrested, court records show. The suspect was booked into the Adair County Jail and later released on $5,000 bond, according to a jail deputy.
