LITTLE ROCK (KTHV) – One of the suspects accused of killing realtor Beverly Carter has rejected a request for a mental evaluation.

Arron Lewis and Crystal Lowery appeared in Pulaski County Circuit Court Wednesday morning for a plea hearing and arraignment. Between now and the next court date scheduled for February 26 at 8:30 a.m., Lewis and Lowery’s legal teams will be working on defense.

According to defense attorney James Hensely, Jr., the defense team requested a mental evaluation for LEwis, but Lewis has rejected the request.

Hensley also said Lewis seems to be doing well and defense is going to take a lot of weeding through information. He added that he’s going to need a strong team to pull it together.

Lewis is apparently really upset about his estranged wife being charged, Hensely included.

During the plea hearing and arraignment, Arron Lewis was heard requesting permission to send letters to Lowery from prison. He has apparently has been doing so since she was taken into custody, but he felt the letters were not going through. THV11’s Marielle Mohs, who was at the courthouse, said the judge did not deny or grant the request, stating that he did not have the power to handle that issue.

In October, Lowery pleaded not guilty via a video arraignment. Lewis pleaded not guilty to all charges back in September.

Lewis and Lowery were both formally charged last week.
