FORT SMITH (KFSM)- Hundreds of thousands of people are sending gifts to loved ones for the holidays. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 15.5 billion cards, letters and packages will be mailed this holiday season.
“It`s kind of exponentially exploded,” said Stanford Logan, the Fort Smith postmaster. “On a daily basis we average about 350 at just this station alone and we are doubling that and tripling that.”
5NEWS asked how late is too late to get your package where it needs to go before Christmas.
“We are suggesting the 18th,” Logan said. “The reason for that is we get to the end our volume increases.”
He also had suggestions for those who are worried about thieves stealing their packages off the doorstep.
“We have signature delivery or signature confirmation so that it does have to be signed for,” Logan said.
Logan also suggested designating a specific place where the mailman can leave packages or having the delivery made to work.
