FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – They may be playing more than 500 miles away from Razorback Stadium, but for some Hogs it’s a home game. Several players hail from the state of Texas.
“It’s going to be real exciting,” running back Jonathan Williams said. “They’re a team I obviously grew up watching because I’m a Texan. So, it’s going to be fun.”
It’s a chance to have friends and family there to cheer them on that may not always get a chance to do so during the regular season here in Arkansas.
“My whole family’s back in Houston,” defensive tackle Taiwan Johnson said. “So, it’s pretty exciting they get to come. Everybody gets to come watch a game for the first time. It’s pretty exciting.”
But, it’s not only great for those on the team to return home, it’s a perfect chance to recruit more players from the lone star state.
“For us and this season to be able to play Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and to play Texas and have TCU on a future docket on a schedule, it’s pretty cool for us as far as trying to recruit our Tex-Hogs and the people in the state of Texas as well as the people here in Arkansas,” coach Bret Bielema said.
But it really comes down to players already on the team on getting a homecoming.
“There’s just no better feeling that for everybody to see me, and with me knowing Texas players, too,” running back Denzell Evans said. “It’s just almost as a reunion. But, it’s a game first , and that’s what we’re going down there to do.”
“Going home being in front of my fans, my family, it’s just going to be a great feeling to be back home,” corner back D.J. Dean said.
