Ty Storey Leads Comeback As Charleston Wins State Title

Storey hit Taylor King with :17 left to give Charleston the winning touchdown over Smackover.

Playing in his final high school game before joining the Razorbacks Ty Storey orchestrated some second half magic to give Charleston it's second straight 3A State Championship. The Tigers came from behind to beat Smackover 33-26 Friday night at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

Tied 26-26 with under five minutes to play, Storey chewed up almost the entire clock with eight straight runs followed by a 4-yard touchdown pass to Taylor King with :17 left for the game winning score.

Storey was named the championship game MVP for the second straight year and finished 24-38 for 218 yards passing with three passing touchdowns to go along with 35 carries, 153 yards rushing and two touchdown runs.

Charleston got on the board first on its opening drive with a 21-yard Storey touchdown run.

Smackover immediately responded with a quick drive to make it 7-7 and took a 13-7 lead into the second quarter on a 77-yard touchdown pass to Arkansas commit Jordan Jones.

Midway through the second quarter Storey found King for 27 yards and a touchdown to tie the game at 13-13. Smackover answered in a little more than two minutes and took a 20-13 lead at halftime.

The Tiger defense forced a three and out to start the third quarter. That started a quick exchange of touchdowns. Storey led a 10-play, 65-yard drive capped off by a 3-yard TD pass on 4th and goal to King. The point after was missed.

The Buckaroos quickly answered in less than two minutes, but also missed an extra point, making it 26-19 with four minutes left in the third. Storey then answered with a 2-yard TD run to tie the game up at 26 heading into the fourth quarter.

Smackover had a chance to take the lead in the last few minutes but King recovered a fumble on Charleston's own 45 with 4:55 left. Storey then led the winning drive.

With his three touchdown passes Storey moves into 11th place all-time in the nation for career TD passes with 154 and 12th place all-time nationally with 12,856 yards.

King finished his career with 251 total catches 3,244 total yards and 38 touchdowns.
