NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) – Anything the Arkansas men’s basketball program can do, the women’s team can do better. At least that was the case in North Little Rock over the weekend.
The Razorbacks got a combined 47 points from Kelsey Brooks and Jessica Jackson as they held off Oklahoma for a 71-64 win at Verizon Arena.
“Fan support from central Arkansas, they really came out, they really helped us in this ball game. I knew they would,” Arkansas coach Jimmy Dykes said. “One of the reasons I took this job because there’s not a more passionate fan base in the country than the Arkansas Razorbacks and they were there for us today.”
Brooks struggled from the floor, shooting just 6-of-16, but got the foul line 20 times for Arkansas. She hit 11-of-20.
“I think we really just stuck together we had a lot of bench players on the court and they really helped us out,” Brooks said. “They stepped up. Calli (Berna) was still encouraging us, telling us what she sees on the floor to help us out. Overall we really stuck together as a team and didn’t let it rattle us.”
Oklahoma was led by Nicole Kornet and McKenna Treece who both finished with 11 points.
