ARKANSAS (KFSM) - Malco Theatres will not be showing the James Franco comedy film "The Interview" on Christmas, according to a spokeswoman for the company.

The spokeswoman did not specify if the theater chain would show the movie in the future now that Sony announced it would allow cinemas to show the film depicting the fictional assassination of North Korea's leader.

Sony cancelled the Christmas release of the film following vague threats of terrorism and the company being hacked in retaliation for the movie.

A total of seven Malco Theatres are in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Rogers, Springdale and Van Buren all have Malco Theatres, according to the company's website.

The chain of movie theaters is headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., according to the company's website.

Movie theater chain AMC has a cinema in Fayetteville with the AMC Fiesta Square 16 theater. The company could not be immediately reached for comment on the issue of whether they would show "The Interview." AMC is headquartered in Kansas, according to the company's website.

Carmike Cinemas, which has a presence in Fort Smith with the Carmike 14 theater, did not list "The Interview" as one of the films it would be showing on Dec. 25, according to a schedule on the company's website. Carmike Cinemas are headquartered in Georgia, the company's website states.

The owner of Little Rock theater Riverdale 10 Cinema does plan to show "The Interview" on Christmas, according to affiliate station KTHV-TV Channel 11. Other theaters in Searcy, Hot Springs and Cabot are also scheduled to show the film, KTHV reported.
