SPRINGDALE (KFSM) – A man is behind bars at the Washington County jail after leading authorities on a high-speed car chase and foot pursuit through Springdale early Wednesday morning (Dec. 31).

George Clark-Torres is now facing multiple charges for outstanding felony warrants with the U.S. Marshals Service and out of Washington County, authorities said. He’s also facing weapon and drug violation charges, in addition to several other misdemeanor charges, according to Springdale Police.

Authorities said they first pulled up behind Clark-Torres’ Silver Chevy Impala because it appeared that he was asleep or passed out behind the wheel at the intersection of Pleasant and Huntsville. After several attempts to get the driver’s attention, Clark-Torres woke up and sped away from the scene, according to news release sent by Springdale Police.

Officers followed him for nearly five miles, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour during that time.

After the high-speed chase, Clark-Torres got out and ran from the vehicle, the release states. Officers then chased him on foot for several minutes before using a taser on him.

Officers searched Clark-Torres’ vehicle after his arrest and said they found a loaded handgun. Officers also said they found methamphetamine and marijuana in his car.

Clark-Torres remains in the Washington County Detention Center on $50,155 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office website.
