GREENWOOD (KFSM) - Construction crews are making some serious progress at the new $2.8 million Greenwood Police Department. This is happening after some of their work was destroyed during a December storm.

Crews are back on schedule with the framing of the building going up at the police department. This happened after storms rolled through the area last month ripping the roof off the future building.

But now, crews have come a long ways in a month's time. According to Chief Will Dawson, construction crews have been hard at work putting together all of the framing of the building. But that's not all, the roof of the storm shelter has been built.

Chief Dawson said the trusses for the roof of the building should be coming in anyday now.

After it's all done, the new police department will have many offices, a training room, a storm shelter, and two holding cells which they didn't have before.

Chief Dawson said it feels a lot better seeing things going back up then it was when they were coming down.

"We had some setbacks but the intial framing is done and the roof of the storm shelter part of the building has been poured," said Chief Dawson. "I think we are ready to get moved in and have room to do things that we need to do."

Even with the setback, crews said they'll be able to make up the work and have the new department opened as planned by July 2015.

The Greenwood Police Deparment currently works out of a small space inside city hall. Voters approved a quarter-cent sales tax to fund the new police department back in 2013.
