FORT SMITH (KFSM)- The Fort Smith Board of Directors approved $84,000 Tuesday (Jan. 20) to fund a motorcycle rally in the city in May.

The director of the Steel Horse Rally, Dennis Snow, went before the city directors Jan.  13 to make his case. He estimates the total cost of the rally will be between $476,887 and $543,387 and believes it will bring in a revenue around $510,000.

Snow said the city's $84,000 allocation was needed to set the event in motion.

Four of the city directors voted for allocating the money from the General Fund, while three voted against it.

The Steel Horse Rally is scheduled for May 1 and 2.

Tuesday night, the board of directors also voted down doubling liquor permit fees to fund city raises. However, Fort Smith officials said the raises will not be affected as they went into effect Jan. 1.
