ROGERS (KFSM) – A Rogers Police Officer was arrested on Jan. 18 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, authorities say.

Michael Elkins, 34, an officer with the department since March 2007, was placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation, according to a news release.

Authorities said the internal investigation’s purpose is to determine if Elkins violated department policies and procedures.

The Rogers Police Department said no further comments will be released on the investigation, according to the release.

Elkins has since released from the Benton County Jail.

The Oakdale Middle School in Rogers lists Elkins as a school resource officer.

On Jan. 18, Elkins was seen driving a red Chevrolet Camaro and revving the motor up several times at a red light at 8th Street West Walnut Avenue, according to an incident report. He then accelerated rapidly, causing the tires to spin and the car to turn sideways as it entered the intersection, deputies said. Elkins continued to drive for a few seconds before being pulled over by a Benton County Sheriff’s deputy, the report states.

Deputies said two young girls under the age of eight and Elkins’ wife were in the car with him.

An initial breath test was administered, and Elkins blew a 0.127, according to the report.
