SPRINGDALE (KFSM) - Tyson Foods announced two initiatives Friday (Jan. 23), which they say will bring more business to downtown Springdale.

The company donated $1 million to the Downtown Springdale Alliance, a nonprofit that works on developing infrastructure and green spaces.

“Springdale has been a part of our past, and it is part of our future,” said Linda Wray, a Tyson spokesperson. “We want to invest in downtown Springdale.”

Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse said Tyson will also open a new downtown office on the corner of Emma Avenue and Berry Street.

“It is one thing to give a lot of money,” Sprouse said. “But, when you are actually bringing people down here to work, that is going to continue to help create the need for other businesses.”

Wray said the company hopes their initiatives will help reignite business in the area.

“Other organizations will also begin to invest more in the downtown Springdale area,” Wray said.

Lonnie Holder lives in Springdale. He said he's happy to hear the company is stepping up to help.

“They`re always looking out for everybody,” Holder said. “Everybody in this vicinity just appreciates it.”

According to Tyson, the new office on Emma Street will also serve as the official company store. Tyson expects its new downtown location to be ready by the end of summer 2015 and said it would employ about 25 people.
