CRAWFORD COUNTY (KFSM) – The Alma woman who was on drugs when she crashed head-on into another vehicle and killed the driver pleaded guilty Friday morning to negligent homicide, according to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office.

Christina Gee, 23, pleaded guilty in an agreement with prosecutors and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with an additional eight years suspended, said Crawford County Prosecutor Marc McCune.

An Arkansas State Police crash report states Gee was driving southbound on U.S. 71 in Crawford County when her pickup crossed the center line and struck Mattie Joyce Mirus’ Hyundai Santa Fe head-on.

Mirus, 51, of Mulberry, was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The fatal crash occurred Dec. 1, 2013, near Gregory Chapel Road north of Alma, according to the state police crash report.

Gee was injured in the wreck and flown by a medical helicopter to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, where she recovered from her injuries, police said.

A subsequent investigation revealed Gee had several drugs in her system at the time of the crash, according to state police.

Mirus’ father-in-law, Richard Mirus, told 5NEWS at the time, “She had such a loving spirit about her, and everybody is going to miss her.”
