GREENWOOD (KFSM) -- One mother in Greenwood said she was only able to get half of a prescription after her daughter came down with the flu.
Rachel Yates said she took her 9-year-old to the doctor when she started having flu symptoms.
"The pediatrician prescribed Tamiflu,” she said.
Yates then went to Walgreens to fill the prescription.
“This morning when we went to get the Tamiflu, Walgreens could only give us half of the prescription, which is one bottle. She should have two bottles. And they told us that they were out, that they would get more, hopefully on Monday,” Yates said.
5NEWS reached out to Walgreens in Greenwood and they referred us to their corporate office.
In an email, Walgreens said it has “ample supply of Tamiflu and flu shots,” but it is unclear whether they are referring to the Greenwood Walgreens in particular, or not.
"They told us we were the last people to get any of this today,” Yates said. “And I know that there's lot more kids that are getting sick every day, because that's what's been happening for the last two weeks.”
Keith Larkin is a pharmacist at MediSav pharmacy in Fort Smith. He said this year's demand for Tamiflu has been greater than normal.
"There's just such an increase in the people that need it, that it goes out the door pretty fast,” Larkin said.
Larkin said his pharmacy ran out of Tamiflu on Sunday (Jan. 25), but that he was able to replenish his supply the same day because their location in Charleston was able to give them extra prescriptions.
Yates said she and her husband were prescribed Tamiflu capsules as a precaution, but that she was told Walgreens did not have enough of the liquid prescription.
