FORT SMITH (KFSM)- The chilly temperatures didn’t stop crowds from heading out to the annual Polar Bear Walk (Jan. 31).

Dozens of people gathered at Ben Geren Park for the event. Participants walked around the park’s fitness trail. The Girls Shelter of Fort Smith has been putting the walk on for the past four years.

“Girl’s Shelter is a long-term residential home for females 12 to 17 that have been court ordered out of their house for whatever reason, and so we’re just home to them for about a year,” Mary Dale Colvett, executive director of the Girls Shelter of Fort Smith said.

The walk was $15 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. All the proceeds from the two mile walk will go to benefit the non-profit organization.
