BENTONVILLE (KFSM) – An off-duty Bentonville firefighter is credited with saving a woman from an apartment fire Sunday (Feb 1), according to Bentonville Fire Chief Larry Horton.

Horton said the fire happened on SW A Street at 3:30 p.m. He said the firefighter, Capt.  Matt Perkins, lives near the apartment and saw the smoke. He said Perkins ran into the burning home and pulled the woman out.

Horton said the woman was taken to Northwest Medical in Bentonville for serious injuries involving smoke inhalation. He said her condition is unknown. Perkins didn’t sustain any injuries when he went into the blaze unprotected.

The chief said the fire was under control in about 20 minutes. He said the apartment is no longer livable. Horton said Benton County Fire Marshall Rod Hughes is investigating where and how the fire started.
