A quick-moving system will move into the area after dark on Wednesday into Thursday morning with the chance for some sleet or snow. The bulk of the snow is expected to fall in Missouri with lesser amounts farther south.

Right now, snow/sleet totals could be on the order of an inch or so but only for Northwest Arkansas: Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers, etc.

Model data doesn’t support much snow farther south in Fort Smith but some minimal accumulation is possible around midnight or very early Thursday morning. This is not a very strong system and moisture is limited.

Temperatures are troubling; any snow occurring with temperatures below 29º has a history of sticking to bridges and overpasses fast and since the snow is taking place at night there won’t be any sunlight to melt it. Bottom line: a few road issues are expected starting Wednesday evening and possibly continuing into Thursday morning until around 10am.

Still another day or so to look at new data so stay tuned… the track and estimates will likely change.
