BENTONVILLE (KFSM) – A felony theft charge was dropped last month against a local doctor arrested in 2013 in an embezzlement investigation, court documents show.

Dr. Ruben Tejada of Rogers was charged with theft of property, accused of keeping cash from self-pay patients, records show.

However, Circuit Judge Robin Green granted a motion on Jan. 22 to drop the charge.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Tejada told employees if they didn’t do what he said that he knew someone in the Mafia and implied he was part of the Mafia, the document states.

Tejada pleaded not guilty of the charge in 2013. He told 5NEWS  last month the money he was accused of taking was money that previous patients owed to him. He also denied insinuating to staff members that he was connected to the Mafia.

In the above video shot by 5NEWS Managing Editor Larry Henry on Jan. 31, Tejada responds to the charge being dropped and to the allegations against him.
