FORT SMITH (KFSM) – A Hackett man has been sentenced to six years and three months for receipt of child pornography, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Conner Eldridge.

Raymond Freitas, 42, was sentenced to 75 months in prison with seven years of supervised release, Eldridge said.

Sentencing took place before Judge P. K. Holmes, according to the release.

U. S. Attorney Eldridge commented, “We will not rest in our efforts to identify, investigate, and prosecute those who commit these despicable crimes against our children. Every time a video or image involving sexual abuse of children is downloaded or viewed, those children are re-victimized. We appreciate the hard work of law enforcement to bring these sexual predators to justice.”

“Criminals who prey on our children remain a top priority for HSI and our law enforcement partners,” said Raymond R. Parmer with Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) New Orleans. “This predator will be locked away from society thanks to the collaborative efforts of HSI and our law enforcement partners at the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office and the Hackett Police Department.”

Court records state in May 2014, agents with HSI found a computer that was being used to download suspected child porn via the Internet. Investigators eventually traced the computer to Freitas. They obtained a search warrant for his residence and seized a computer and several DVDs, the release states.

Freitas admitted to downloading images and videos of child porn on multiple occasions, according to court records.

Eldridge said he pleaded guilty on Sept. 29, 2014.
