The cold air continues to move south across the area Wednesday afternoon with another large drop in temperatures expected for the overnight and day on Thursday.

Snow will develop behind the front but amounts will be minimal due to limited moisture and quick pace of the system.

Northwest Arkansas is most favored to see some light snow less than 1″

Best time frame for snow will be from 7pm to Midnight.

The High Resolution Rapid Refresh model depicts snow in NWA at 10pm and rain/sprinkles in FSM.

Accumulation should range from little to nothing up to around 1/2″ In the higher elevations of the Ozarks, up to 1″ is possible but this does not appear to be widespread.

HD Futurecast is also showing accumulation of less than 1/2″ inch through 2am.

The River Valley and Fort Smith area not expected to see much accumulation; perhaps a few flurries around 10pm.

The cold nature of the airmass will allow another that is able to stick to the ground to stay around overnight so it’s possible there will be some slick spots on roads as well as bridges and overpasses into Thursday morning.

Very cold temperatures are anticipated on Thursday morning ranging from the upper teens to the low 20s.

Sunshine and above freezing temperatures will quickly melt any snow that falls by mid-morning with warmer temperatures expected by the weekend.
