ROGERS (KFSM) – A convicted sex offender from Rogers was arrested on Feb. 1 on suspicion of raping an 18-year-old woman, police say.

Jackie L. McCargo, 48, was booked into the Benton County Detention Center on Sunday, and he faces a charge of rape and revocation of his suspended sentence or probation, according to jail records.

Police were called to a residence in the 600 block of South 24th Street at 3:19 p.m. in response to a rape case, an arrest report states.

The victim told police she was asleep on a couch in McCargo’s home, and the suspect came into the room and raped her, according to the report.

She said she was sleeping and woke up to McCargo touching her inappropriately, the report states. Then, he raped her, despite her hitting him and telling him to stop, according to police.

According to authorities, McCargo’s wife eventually came in and started hitting him, and she was able to get him off of the victim.

Police said that afterwards, while the victim was getting dressed, McCargo’s wife came back into the room, pushing her and telling her the situation was her fault.

The victim fell and struck her head on a coffee table, the report states. After that, she left the house and went to a friend’s home to report the rape.

She then went to Mercy Hospital in Rogers for treatment.

The victim told police that the rape took place in a back bedroom on a couch with a blanket covering it. She also said it was her third time staying with McCargo and his wife, and she didn’t know the suspect that well, the report states. The victim said she was staying with the family because her boyfriend was working and not home, according to police.

At 5:57 p.m. on Sunday, police spoke with McCargo, and he said he got up to use the restroom. While he was up, he said the victim asked him if he wanted to have sex with her and started taking off his pants, the report states. McCargo denied forcing the victim to have sex with him, police said.

A search warrant was executed at McCargo’s residence to find the blanket that covered the couch, but McCargo’s wife had already put it into the washing machine, the report states. She told police it was “gross,” and so she washed it, according to authorities. McCargo’s wife told police she wasn’t trying to destroy evidence, according to the report.

On Feb. 2, police learned the victim had red marks on her neck and fingertip bruises on her inner thighs, the report states.

Criminal records indicate McCargo is a level-three sex offender, and he was convicted of fourth-degree sexual assault on April 21, 2014, after he touched a 15-year-old female neighbor and asked her to engage in sex acts with him. He was also accused of forcing a 21-year-old man to engage in a sexual act with him in 2011, criminal records state.

McCargo has also been convicted of third-degree domestic battery, writing hot checks, public intoxication, failure to appear, driving while intoxicated, second-degree domestic battery and fourth-degree sexual assault, according to criminal records.

His bond has been set at $100,000, and his next court date is scheduled for March 9, jail records state.
