ARKOMA (KFSM) - An Arkoma family said they're thankful to be alive after a semi caught fire and exploded in their driveway early Thursday morning (Feb. 5).

The Boen family said they woke up after a neighbor knocked on their door around 2 a.m., alerting them that the semi truck in their driveway was on fire.

"I looked out there and I just couldn't believe it," said 15-year-old Ethan Boen.

Ethan, his brother, his parents and his grandmother were all able to make it out of the home safely.

Moments later several small explosions went off.

"Fortunately the winds were pretty calm and we kept the fire contained to the deisel," explained Arkoma Fire Chief Chris Carlyle. "They're very fortunate that we were able to save the house."

"I'm just blessed to be here right now," 18-year-old Christopher Boen said. "I'm just so thankful that the man came to our door, and thank God that I'm here right now."

The family told 5NEWS the truck was insured and that they plan to file a claim later in the day.

Chief Carlyle said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This was the fourth fire the Arkoma Fire Department has responded to in just the past two weeks.
