NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KFSM) - It was national "National Wear Red Day" on Friday (Feb.6) in honor of the fight against heart disease and stroke in women. Statistics show one in three women die of heart disease and stroke even though it's 80% preventable.

February is heart month and one local hospital is taking it to heart and raising the bar on heart awareness. Mercy Hospital is really making the push to make people aware of heart and vasicular disease. During February, the package deal for all testing adds up to $100.

Cornory heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States. Doctors said a screening is one of the easiest ways to cut those numbers down.

During the procedure, they will look at your arteries, the circulation in your legs, and take a picture of your heart and make sure they're no pre - mature blockage. After the test, you will be able to meet with a practioner and go over the results.

People of the age of 50 and older or even younger with a long family history should have these screenings done.

Vasicular Technologist Kevin Tucker said it's important for everyone to do a heart screening. Even for people without family history of heart disease.

"We don't want to see the people that already know have the cornory heart diease," said Tucker. "We want to see the people that haven't been checked."

Tucker said a heart screening is an easy way to evaluate if you have a heart disease.

You can stop by the Mercy Hospital in Rogers or in Bella Vista. Heart screenings take around 20 minutes.
