Pedestrian Killed By Driver In Springdale, Police Say

SPRINGDALE (KFSM)- A 62-year-old man was killed as he was walking across the street when he was hit by a vehicle in Springdale on Friday (Feb. 6) night, according to the Springdale Police Department.

Ricky Wade Henry was struck by a pickup truck driven by 31-year-old Hugo Mancia just after 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Huntsville Avenue and Spring Street, according to police. When officers arrived, the pedestrian was on the sidewalk and first responders immediately began treating him, police said. The man was then taken to Washington Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries, according to police.

The preliminary investigation showed the man was crossing Huntsville Avenue at Spring Street when he was struck by the vehicle, which was traveling eastbound, according to police.

Police said, as of right now, they have not arrested the driver of the pickup truck, but the accident is under investigation. The driver was also tested for alcohol and drugs, which is standard procedure. A breath test registered no alcohol.

The pedestrian’s blood and the driver’s blood were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to check for any traces of drugs or alcohol, which is standard procedure.

Police said there is no crosswalk or stoplight at the intersection.

      Washington Regional is a level 1 trauma center that can handle massive traumas, Springdale isn’t capable of trauma.
