LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) – An Arkansas representative filed a proposed amendment to the state Constitution aiming to abolish the office of the lieutenant governor, according to legislative records.
Rep. Julie Mayberry, R-Hensley, filed the proposed amendment on Wednesday (Feb. 11) at 4:28 p.m.
The amendment, if passed, would abolish the lieutenant governor office on Jan. 1, 2019. The proposed amendment is called HJR 1026, according to legislative records.
Julie Mayberry’s husband, Andy Mayberry, ran unsuccessfully for the office of lieutenant governor in the 2014 election. He lost in the May 2014 primary to Tim Griffin, who would eventually go on to become the elected lieutenant governor.
