NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KFSM) - A winter storm rolled into Northwest Arkansas, making for slick roadways on Monday (Feb. 16) in Washington and Benton counties.
A Toyota Camry crashed into a police patrol vehicle in Springdale on Monday morning. Police said the vehicle was traveling westbound on Morris Street, tried to stop at a stop sign before merging onto U.S. 71 and wasn't able to stop.
"The car wasn't able to stop in time and collided with our patrol vehicle," said Sgt. Jonathan Knight, Springdale Police Departmant. "Both the driver of the Toyota Camry and our officer are fine. There are no injuries reported."
Knight said several vehicles also slid into ditches due to the icy conditions.
"They are definitely slick," he said of the roads. "I would definitely caution drivers to be careful or stay at home if they can."
Arkansas State Police said by late afternoon there were nine wrecks in Washington County, including two that involved injuries. In Benton County, state police said they responded to three accidents along Interstate 49.
