VAN BUREN (KFSM) – A Facebook page and petition were started on Thursday (Feb. 19) to support a Van Buren teacher accused of hitting two students.

Denan Cagle, a science teacher at Northridge Middle School, has a warrant out for her arrest on suspicion of misdemeanor third-degree battery, according to court documents filed in Crawford County on Wednesday.

Van Buren police said Jan. 29 they were investigating Cagle following allegations she struck a student on his arm during class. Detectives later forwarded the case to prosecutors, who decided to charge Cagle in connection with the incident. A police incident report was also filed in a separate incident from last November, in which a student and his classmates said Cagle slapped him in the face.

The page is called “Denan Cagle Support Page,” and it was started to “show support” for the science teacher. As of Thursday at 6 p.m., the Facebook page had 156 supporters. A petition has also been started to allow the teacher to keep her job. As of Thursday evening, it had 40 signatures.

Several attempts to contact Cagle through the school district, telephone and email have been unsuccessful. A 5NEWS reporter also went to a home listed as belonging to Cagle in order to get her side of the story. The person who answered said he had never heard of her.

A check of jail records on Thursday night showed that Cagle had not yet been booked into the Crawford County Detention Center.

Cagle has been placed on paid administrative leave following the warrant being issued for her arrest. She has until March to appeal her recommended firing.

A bigger question in this case is what was the determination of the DHS investigation in the teachers previous abuse allegation?

My Question is What did the Student say or Do to cause the Teacher to THUMB HIM??
Teachers need to send a Note at the Beginning of the Year Stating the Teachers WILL NOT PUT UP WITH ANY BS. The Teacher can either Discipline the UNRULLY STUDENT OR WE DON’T WANT THEM IN THE SCHOOL.. And the Note MUST BE SIGNED BY LEGAL GUARDIAN.. Also have WORKING CAMERAS WITH SOUND IN ALL ROOMS WHICH MUST BE WORKING ANY TIME THE SCHOOL IS OPEN AND LET ANYONE ENTERING THE SCHOOL KNOW..

What is wrong with picture? In November a Fort Smith Doctor gets arrested for carrying. A bag with 2 loaded guns, a few thousand dollars in cash and several different kinds of narcotics of which he only had a prescription for 2 of them. The prosecutor decided to drop charges against him. This teacher has allegations against her for slapping a boy on his arm, and the prosecutor is pressing charges, and swore out a warrant for her arrest. I guess she doesn’t have the money to pay someone off. Sad world we live in.

If she is innocent why has she not turned herself in, she surely knows there is a warrant, It’s been very public. BOBREAL, Why assume the student did anything? BUT even if the student did, No-one should have struck a student for ANY reason! Let the truth come out and if she’s guilty, she has no place in a school.

Thank you, to everyone, whom is following their precious hearts and minds, in order to help such a wonderful teacher! I am in my 30’s, and I can still name all of my bones, because of the unique and fun way she taught it to us! As I have stated before, my entire family had the privilege to have, Mrs. Cagle, as a teacher! Many don’t know the dangers, that pencils can cause, sometimes until it happens to someone, near and dear, to you! Also, everyone makes mistakes, and just please keep in mind, how long she has been a teacher, and has done no major damage or problems, in her entire teaching career! Mrs. Cagle doesn’t know I am doing all of this because I am doing this, straight from my heart! Thank you all, for taking the time to listen, even if you disagree, with me…It still means a lot!
