FORT SMITH (KFSM) -A minor crash at a Fort Smith elementary school Thursday morning was initially classified as a hit-and-run, but police say they talked to both drivers and no one is hurt.

Fort Smith officers said they were searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision in front of Cavanaugh Elementary School just after 8:30 a.m. Following a short investigation, police identified and talked to both drivers involved and are calling it a minor incident.

Police said a driver was dropping her kids off at the elementary school, when another mother dropping off her children backed into her. Investigators initially believed the driver took off, but later located both drivers involved.

The story says police “later located both drivers”. If they didn’t locate them both at the scene of the accident that’s a hit n run felony.

Maybe the “runner” didn’t actually leave. Maybe they just parked somewhere else and waited. The original article said there was no description of the other car, so it is a reasonable assumption that the other driver just moved out of the way after the accident. Most people don’t realize that if the cars are moveable, then you are supposed to move them out of the roadway.

The police need to patrol that are in the mornings. The parents are the problems. They will tailgate and pull out in front of you trying to rush to work. The 4 way stop is also dangerous. People will not stop to let the kids cross and one of them is going to get hit. You can ask the bus drivers that go down texax road. They make a pickup just past the 4 way and again at Texas and Chateau and peopel will not stop. I even witnessed a car recently that was behind the bus and he floored it and passed them while they were picking up.
