CBS News – Amid more executions by the militant group ISIS, Americans increasingly see the group as a threat to the U.S. Now, 65 percent of Americans view ISIS as a major threat – up from 58 percent in October – while another 18 percent view it as a minor threat. Majorities of Republicans (86 percent), Democrats (61 percent) and independents (57 percent) view ISIS as a major threat.

With concern about ISIS growing, support for the use of U.S. ground troops in the fight against ISIS has risen. For the first time, a majority of Americans (57 percent) favor the U.S. sending ground troops into Iraq and Syria to fight ISIS. In October, Americans were divided (47 percent favored and 46 percent opposed), and in September these numbers were reversed (39 percent favored and 55 percent opposed).

Support for sending U.S. ground troops to fight ISIS has risen among all partisans, but particularly among Democrats and independents. Back in October, 56 percent of Democrats and 49 percent of independents disapproved of using ground troops – now 50 percent of Democrats approve and 53 percent of independents favor using ground troops.

Additionally, there is public consensus for passing the military authorization bill President Obama has requested from Congress, which would allow the U.S. to use ground troops for limited operations for three years without any geographical limitations, but would preclude the use of ground troops for long term offensive operations. Two in three Americans think Congress should pass this authorization, including majorities of Democrats (71 percent), Republicans (65 percent), and independents (64 percent).

Although I think we should help rid the world of those barbarians, I don’t want to see boots on the ground. We’ve suffered too much already.

How about we match, after the fact, what Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia sends? It’s their part of the world you know. Need to add in the Italians too since they are being threaten with actual invasion. Maybe it is time to have Japan step up with some military involvement. They should be good and pissed by now.

The whole invasion and subsequent occupying of Iraq is what caused these freedom fighter groups to form in the first place. We had no business going there then, and we’ll be playing right into their trap if we go back.

No boots on the ground. They would dissect one of our soldiers piece by piece if a soldier was captured. These people do not have rational brains. Wipe out ISIS with drones or infiltrate and poison them.
