SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) – A collision between a car and a semi truck Thursday afternoon led to a truck fire that shut down Arkansas 22 in Sebastian County.
State troopers shut down the highway near Central City around 3 p.m. because of the crash and resulting fire. Responding firefighters knocked out the semi fire, which destroyed the truck’s cab.
The driver of the passenger car involved in the wreck was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith with unknown injuries. The nurse who pulled the man from the wreckage described his condition as “critical”. The semi truck’s driver was uninjured, according to first responders at the scene.
Arkansas State Police set up a detour around the wreck to keep traffic moving, although traffic was backed up during the situation.
Police said the car was traveling eastbound on Arkansas 22 when it crossed the center lane and collided with the Old Dominion Freight Line truck, which was heading westbound. The car was totaled in the collision, state police said.
